Every few years the industry finds a new word to fall in love with. This year the word is biotech, and for once, kochanie, I am not rolling my eyes.

Biotech beauty means ingredients grown rather than harvested — actives produced through fermentation, plant cell culture, and precision biology instead of stripping a field or a seabed. At In-cosmetics Global 2026 in Hamburg this spring, three biotech categories dominated the floor: exosome delivery systems, fermented bioactive complexes, and GLP-1-inspired formulations. The suppliers who feed the world's laboratories have decided this is where skincare goes next.

The question I get on my table is simpler. Does any of it do anything for my face? Let me translate the news into something useful.

Exosomes grew up this year

Exosomes are microscopic vesicles cells release to talk to one another. They carry proteins, lipids, and RNA fragments — instructions, essentially, telling neighboring cells to repair, produce collagen, calm down.
